Sunday 14th November - Measurements made for detailed plan
Martin & I did some measuring round the perimeter of the pond today. The species of trees growing and their distance from a starting point (the northern apex of the pond) were noted on a scale map. The drizzle was trying to dissolve the paper map before we finished the job, but it is still legible, the details will be transferred to a dry map.
Despite many of the trees lacking leaves, Martin was excellent at identification. There were 20 different species. We also identified "significant" trees i.e. large ones. This will be useful when we need to talk to Tom Gregory (Winchester CC) about TPO consent for the perimeter of the pond, especially around the lay-by area. Some trees are good looking specimens, but others are in a bad state - heavy leans, broken limbs, etc.
